Around the School: Blessing Bags & Canine Visitors!
As warmer weather approaches, it’s as vibrant and joyful as ever at OLMC! There’s something new to experience and enjoy every day, and our students take full advantage of each opportunity. Preparations for the play and spring concert are well underway, the track team is hard at work and having fun, our garden-to-table program is in full bloom, and our field studies continue to educate and delight students in all grades. And that’s just the kids!
It’s no less joyful a time for parents and teachers: Our spring gala is upon us, our reading and rosary groups continue to provide meaningful fellowship, and our very own Mrs. Zagarino is being recognized as Educator of the Year at the Lakeland Hills YMCA annual banquet. Truly it is a season of abundance for the OLMC community, and we are grateful for it!
There were two activities that had the children especially excited. First, we recently undertook a Blessing Bag project, focusing on those in our area who find themselves homeless. Each class collected donations for a different item for Heart and Hands Mission. On Holy Thursday, the students brought all of their donations together to create individual blessing bags. In all, the students made approximately 120 bags to pass out to those most in need. It was a rewarding and humbling experience for all.
Second, many of our students earned the chance to participate in a read-to-dogs party as a reward for their participation in our Readathon! The children embraced their time with these gentle animals as an opportunity to praise and love God, by giving witness to the beauty and marvels of His creation. The party was a great success and source of delight to all, students and dogs alike!
